History

The Broome County Regional Farmers Market is a large indoor market open year round in Binghamton, New York. The Regional Farmers Market is open every Saturday from 9-1 pm and Tuesdays from 4pm-7pm (June-Sept). By housing the Regional Farmers Market on our Cornell Cooperative Extension campus, we are able to help provide local farmers and community members with the opportunity to buy and sell fresh produce and homemade goods all year round. We are always looking for more ways to bring local products to our community which is why we’ve decided to try a Antique/Craft market this coming summer. We will open the Second Sunday of each month from June thru December to host multiple dealers/vendors at our indoor market space.

In February 2009, the Broome County Government and its partners began to develop a concept plan and explore the feasibility of creating a Regional Farmers Market in Broome County. Because of Binghamton’s ideal location and vast interconnected highway network, it was the perfect place to establish a regional market that will benefit the region’s farmers, residents and neighboring communities. After a two year period, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County was chosen as the location of the new regional market, and the groundbreaking on the market building began in October 2015. After a mild winter and a rapid building process, we are excited to be open for business!

The Broome County Regional Farmers Market offers the best products in the Southern Tier. The products range from locally-grown fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices to locally-raised meat, dairy and eggs to breads, baked goods, honey, jams, jellies, maple syrups and coffee to potted plants, cut flowers, jewelry, home supplies, and more!

The multitude and diversity of vendors in the market makes the market unique to the Southern Tier. The market is truly a gathering space for all members of our community and visitors to Broome County to enjoy our local products and talents and to connect farmers with consumers on a personal level. The Regional Farmers’ Market allows the market to operate year round, rain or shine, and is a great venue for celebrations and community events. Vendors also have the opportunity to rent space for as little as one day at a time, encouraging more vendors, and a greater variety of vendors, to bring their products to the market.
Additionally, a commercial kitchen is housed within the market to assist farmers to test and create products. These products will be developed, produced, marketed and sold within the region, further promoting our mission to advance local agriculture in the Southern Tier.

Support for the project came from the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council, Empire State Development, New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, the Agency, the Low Income Investment Fund, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Broome County and Broome County Government.
